Five Dollar Toy

Five Dollar Toy

Student Work : Bookforms

For the first project of my Bookforms class, I was tasked with visiting a hardware store and creating a toy on a budget of just $5. After concepting and building the toy, I developed a logo and packaging for it and then designed a folded booklet explaining the toy that unfolded to become a 17” x 22” poster.

AL the Alien was created from two electrical outlet covers, two ‘S’ hooks, electrical tape, and green twine. He inhabits a desktop and is meant to be a source of inspiration during a creative slump or a pick-me-up during a bout of anxiety. He can be customized with interchangeable eyes and a pair of thick-rimmed glasses.

AL comes with two sets of eyes, each double-sided for four total pairs. His packaging is a cardboard rocket covered in chalkboard paint for extra personalization.
